Grainne Hurst Appointed CEO of Betting and Gaming Council

Grainne Hurst has been named the new CEO of the Betting and Gaming Council.

Grainne Hurst is the new leader of the Betting and Gaming Council. She used to work for Entain and has about ten years of experience. The person she’s replacing, Michael Dugher, will become the new head of the board, after Brigid Simmonds OBE.

Key Career Milestones

  • Hurst served at Entain for almost ten years.
  • She played a key role in rebranding GVC to Entain.
  • Hurst led Entain’s global safer gambling strategy, winning multiple awards.
  • She has experience as an advisor to the UK government.
  • Hurst is a strong advocate for women in the industry, setting up Global Gaming Women’s international arm.

BGC's Leadership Shuffle

Brigid Simmonds is leaving her job as the chair of the BGC on April 20. The BGC chose Hurst for the job after looking at many candidates. Michael Dugher says Hurst is the right person for the job because of her great skills and her plan for the organization.

The BGC’s Essential Function and Purpose

Hurst has joined the organization that represents most of the UK’s legal betting and gaming industry. This industry helps maintain 110,000 jobs and adds a lot to the UK’s financial earnings and taxes. Hurst’s immediate job includes working on the UK government’s new rules for gambling, especially those that affect casinos and how they are taxed.

Business Sector Problems and Actions

Hurst’s job is more important now because of the new gambling rules. The BGC, where Hurst works, agrees with the government but worries about higher taxes for gambling companies. Dugher, from the BGC, said these extra taxes could make it hard for the gambling industry to grow and get back on its feet.

Hurst is committed to guarding customers and enforcing rules as she takes charge. She plans to maintain the UK betting industry’s top position and protect customers at the same time.
